Habitec Security, based in Ohio, Celebrates 50th Anniversary

TOLEDO, Ohio — Habitec Security announces it is celebrating 50 years of providing state-of-the-art security solutions for homes and businesses.

In 1972, Jim Smythe founded Habitec Security on his mother’s dining room table in Toledo. With his vision, entrepreneurial spirit, and incredibly loyal and experienced team members, Habitec says it grew into a nationally recognized security company.

John Smythe took over the reins in 2006 and further grew Habitec into the company it is today. It is headquartered here, with two full-service branches in Columbus, Ohio and Northern Michigan, and employs 90 highly-trained, experienced team members, who have helped Habitec be a six-time and counting The Blade Top Workplace.

The amazing team, state-of-the art products and services, and locally owned and operated, award-winning central station sets Habitec apart from its competitors, the company states.

“Habitec’s top priority is the security and peace of mind of our customers. We are honored to advance on these industry rankings, and know it is a direct result of our commitment to our employees, customers and the communities we service. We value the relationships we have and understand the level of service expected. With a proven track record for 50 years, Habitec is known for the exceptional products and services we offer to our customers — 24/7,” says John Smythe, president of Habitec Security.

Habitec continues to give back to the community by supporting a number of organizations each year, including the Goodwill Industries, Ronald McDonald House, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Toledo Ballet, Toledo Zoo and many more.

The company also supports the local sports teams and players — the Toledo Mud Hens, Toledo Walleye, BGSU Athletics, University of Toledo, Dana LPGA Classic and more.

“Throughout the years, Habitec has provided a career to hundreds of team members, peace of mind to thousands of customers and support to many charitable and non-profit organizations. All of our team members have helped to follow through with my dad’s wishes to help people. We look forward to the next 50 years of Habitec Security,” adds Smythe.
